THIRUVANANTHAPURAM/NEW DELHI:
In election season, crores of households across India are receiving a personalised letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi as his flagship health insurance plan under the Ayushman Bharat - PM Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), the largest government-funded healthcare programme, touches the 100-day mark.
As many as 7.5 crore letters have been printed by the central government at a cost of Rs.15.75 crore, sources tell NDTV.
The two-sheet letter, folded neatly in an envelope marked "Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana", comes with details of other flagship schemes of the Modi government.
"I have experienced poverty very closely in my life ...The best way to uplift the poor is by empowering them. For this reason, ever since people elected me as PM and gave me the opportunity to serve them, my endeavour has been to empower the poor, the common people and women. We have taken many steps from building houses to income generation, from education to health...," says a message from PM Modi in the local language.
PM Modi goes on to explain the benefits of several schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the Saubhagya Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and many more, before ending the letter with his note on the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
